Pune: Two people drowned in a river in Pune. The incident took place in Bhide Pool and Karvenagar area. The fire brigade received information about one person being washed away from the riverbed in the Bhide Bridge area around 1.30 pm on Friday. Kasba Peth fire station chief Kamlesh Chaudhary and personnel rushed to the spot. The police immediately began a search operation. One person was reported to have drowned in the river. The search operation was carried out in the Siddheshwar Ghat area of the municipal building. One person was pulled out by the water. He was saved by the soldiers. The rescued person has been identified as Ajay Kumar Gautam (45).
In another incident, one person was reported to be trapped in the riverbed in Karvenagar area at around 7 am. On receiving the information, Warje and Sinhagad Road Fire Station Officer Prabhakar Umratkar and personnel rushed to the spot.
As soon as the information of the incident was received, the police and fire brigade of the concerned police station reached the spot. When it was noticed that one Isam was stuck in the middle of the river, the jawans used ropes, life rings and life jackets to bring him out of the water. The boat capsized in the river. One person trapped in the vessel was rescued.
