Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought asylum in India. Later, an interim government was formed in Bangladesh at the initiative of economist Mohammad Yunus and backed by the army. Mohammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government, has warned Sheikh Hasina. If Sheikh Hasina is making political statements while sitting in India, it will not be appropriate for India-Bangladesh friendship. Sheikh Hasina's political statements while sitting in India are weakening the relations between the two countries. "If Sheikh Hasina wants to stay in India till she returns to Bangladesh, she should keep her mouth shut," Younus told PTI in Dhaka.

On August 13, Sheikh Hasina, in a political statement, said that action should be taken against those who committed violence and killed innocent citizens while protesting against the government in Bangladesh. After this statement, Mohammad Yunus expressed his displeasure. "We thought that Sheikh Hasina has been given shelter in India. But they are campaigning. Sheikh Hasina has not visited India. So after the uprising of the people and keeping in mind the public outcry, they have fled. Therefore, sitting in India, they should not give advice on the developments here, we will not accept that and this is also not good for India-Bangladesh relations. We are upset with his statement, "he said.

India should look at all parties except Awami League.
Mohammad Yunus further said that Sheikh Hasina will definitely be brought back to Bangladesh. We attach great importance to the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. But India needs to stop looking at political parties other than the Awami League only through the prism of Islamism or move beyond this narrative.

"Relations between India and Bangladesh are at an all-time low and both countries need to work together to improve it. " Younis made the remarks in an interview to PTI after a telephonic conversation between him and Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week. After the conversation, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two leaders discussed how to further improve relations between the two countries.
